KUALA LUMPUR: A proposed RM100 million pig farm in Sepang is causing some concern.

Although details have not been revealed, Malaysian Nature Society communications head Andrew Sebastian cautioned that the project must be implemented with a high standard of environmental conditions.

“This project must come with a proper implementation plan because I’m sure that residents in the area will be worried about water quality once the project starts.

“I hope the state government has put much thought into this project so that it will not cause environmental damage and affect the quality of water,” he said.

Sebastian added the government must also co-operate with environmental organisations to monitor the project.

Neither state executive councillor Teresa Kok, who revealed the approval of the project by the state government, or Agriculture Modernisation, Natural Resources and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman Yaakob Sapari could be reached for comments.
