China to Have Largest Panda Breeding Place
April 22, 2008
China plans to set up this year the world’s largest breeding center for the giant panda, with an initial population of 200 of the endangered animals.
The new facility, covering more than 7,700 square miles, will be located in southwest Sichuan province, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The facility will become part of the Wolong nature reserve center, where 130 captive pandas were bred last year from an original population of 10, the report said.
The giant panda, one of the world’s most endangered species, is found only in China.
