Shaw Awarded Contract for Environmental Remediation at Two Former Air Force Bases
The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) announced today that its Environmental & Infrastructure Group has been awarded a contract by the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment to provide environmental remediation services at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base (AFB) in South Carolina and the former England AFB in Louisiana. The value of Shaw’s contract is undisclosed and will be included in the company’s third quarter fiscal 2008 backlog.
Shaw will focus on accelerating cleanup at the former bases by implementing innovative, technology-based solutions in its execution of environmental remediation and restoration activities under the contract. For the past 10 years, Shaw has been the primary on-site contractor at the former Myrtle Beach AFB, providing remedial activities on contaminated properties and assisting with property transfer for public re-use. The two former bases have been closed since the early 1990s as part of the Department of Defense’s Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program.
“This award provides Shaw the opportunity to continue the environmental restoration program at the former Myrtle Beach AFB and expand our efforts to assist the Air Force at the former England AFB,” said Ronald W. Oakley, president of Shaw’s Environmental & Infrastructure Group. “We remain committed to supporting the BRAC program and providing quality environmental services to achieve successful site cleanup for the Air Force and surrounding communities.”
