Island Lilt’s Pure Glos
May 1, 2008
THE 63 inhabitants of a tiny Pacific island have been found to talk with Gloucestershire accents.
They are all descended from whaler William Masters who is now believed to have come from the county – 12,000 miles away.
He settled on Palmerston Atoll in 1863 and had 17 children by four wives before his death in 1899.
