LOS ANGELES, May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- VYCON, http://www.vyconenergy.com/, the designer and manufacturer of environmentally friendly, high-speed flywheel energy storage systems, today announced that Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) has placed their second order for REGEN systems. LBCT has purchased four additional REGEN units for their RTG cranes in the Port of Long Beach.
Based on the performance of their first two REGEN systems, in operation since December of 2007, and the California Air Resource Board's verification of VYCON's flywheel technology, LBCT is retrofitting the remainder of their AC powered RTG cranes. These units will make a significant impact in reducing the emissions generated by the cargo handling equipment at LBCT, while also providing fuel savings and a strong return on investment.
"We have been impressed by the results and multiple benefits that we have achieved using the REGEN system on our RTGs," said Kevin Hayes, Senior Vice President for Long Beach Container Terminal. "Our goal is to be leaders in the movement to green the Port and our community. The REGEN system is the type of new technology that I like to support as it benefits the environment as well as our financial reports by reducing fuel costs."
"We are very pleased that LBCT has recognized the value of our technology and that they are the first at the Port of Long Beach to make this level of commitment to improving the environment," said Louis Romo, Vice-President Sales - REGEN. "With the recent funding from the Port of LA we expect that other local operators will follow LBCT's lead with our equipment."
