SEREMBAN: Thousands of consumers faced up to four hours of water cuts after the Linggi water treatment plant was shut down following traces of diesel found in Sungai Linggi.

State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Telecommunications Committe chairman Datuk Ismail Lasim said the state Water Supply Department (JBANS) detected the traces of diesel in the river at 12.30pm yesterday and immediately shut down plant.

“We shut down the plant for about four hours which caused water cuts in several areas, including Port Dickson, Rantau, Sendayan, Kombok, Senawang and Rembau.”

He said JBANS staff successfully cleaned up the traces of diesel and water supply was restored about 5pm.

“We could not detect where the diesel came from, but I assure the people that there is nothing to worry about,” he said.

Meanwhile, state Environmental Department director, Rahani Hussin said they were informed of the incident and upon investigating found that there was no cause for alarm.
