Bayer Material Science Contributes to School’s 21st Century Learning
Hurricane High School’s science department is able to provide more 21st Century learning, thanks to a $1,000 grant from Bayer Material Science.
Science Department Chair Frances Tolley says that Bayer has generously given to Hurricane High for several years, supporting the HHS Quiz Bowl and granting other funding to the science classes.
This year, besides funding the 21st Century learning projects, Bayer also arranged for the advanced chemistry classes to travel to Pittsburgh to their national headquarters.
There, students toured the facility and viewed how Bayer uses polyols in developing products.
During the tour, students experienced the scientific method in action and were allowed to work with some of the processes that lead to the development of polyols.
Tolley plans to purchase a spectrophotometer to allow students to analyze the concentrations of substances.
In addition, she will use funding to purchase a CPS tablet that interacts with digital projectors to show student work on a whiteboard.
