DUNKIN’ BRANDS TO GIVE $1M TO CULINARY SCHOOL PROGRAM

CANTON – Dunkin’ Brands Inc. plans to give $1 million to the Culinary Institute of America for the college’s “El Sueno” initiative at its main campus in Hyde Park, N.Y., and its new campus in San Antonio. Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands becomes one of the founding donors for the initiative, which will promote Latin American diversity in the restaurant industry and encourage Latin American students to pursue a career in the industry.

11 MASS. CITIES FORM GROUP TO DRAW BUSINESS INVESTMENT

The mayors of 11 aging industrial cities in the state plan to sign an agreement on Monday to form an alliance aimed at drawing economic investments to the so-called “Gateway Cities” and sharing ideas with each other. The cities in Southeastern Massachusetts that are participating include Brockton, Fall River and New Bedford.

SUFFOLK DOWNS CITED FOR WATER VIOLATIONS

BOSTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it ordered Suffolk Downs to reduce the pollutants being discharged from the East Boston racetrack into Sales Creek, a tributary of Boston Harbor. Suffolk Downs, the agency said, is violating the federal Clean Water Act due to horse manure and stable wash water entering Sales Creek through stormwater runoff.

SCITUATE PHYSICIAN TO CHAIR ATRIUS BOARD

Dr. Edward Nalband of Scituate has been elected chairman of Atrius Health’s board of trustees. The Newton organization consists of five physicians’ groups, including Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical, Harvard Vanguard and the South Shore Medical Center. Nalband, an internist, is medical director at the South Shore Medical Center in Norwell.

MUTUAL FUND FIRM OPENS IN AUSTRALIA

BOSTON – MFS Investment Management has opened an office in Sydney, Australia. The office will lead investment coverage of publicly traded Australian companies for the Boston-based mutual fund firm.

ADOBE SYSTEMS MOVING TO WALTHAM

WALTHAM – Adobe Systems Inc. has agreed to buy the 108,500- square-foot Overlook Center in Waltham for $44.7 million. Adobe is buying the incomplete structure, along with a parking garage, on Hickory Drive from Normandy Real Estate Partners. The building, which will be used by the software company, will be ready for occupancy by late 2009. Adobe plans to move its 200 employees in Newton to the Waltham building once it’s done. The building, Adobe said, would provide room for continued growth.

EMD SERONO OFFERING CASH INCENTIVES

ROCKLAND – EMD Serono is launching a program that offers either $250 or $500 in savings to eligible cash-paying patients who start on their second cycle of Gonal-f, the Rockland company’s fertility drug. The “FertilityAssist 2″ program was launched to prevent patients from discontinuing a second cycle of the drug for financial reasons.

INVENTORS SOUGHT FOR PBS SHOW

PROVIDENCE – Everyday Edisons, a PBS reality series that chronicles the lives of inventors, will host a final casting call for inventors who wish to be featured in the program’s third season from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. Innovators with inventions at all stages – from basic sketches to patented manufactured samples – are invited to attend.
