Cape Hatteras Makes Top 10 Beaches List

It didn’t make No. 1 like its southern counterpart did last year, but Cape Hatteras made Dr. Beach’s Top 10 list for 2008. It was ranked No. 8. Each year, Stephen Leatherman, director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research, ranks beaches using dozens of factors, including water and sand quality, facilities and environmental management. Landing on his Top 10 Beaches list is generally cause for celebration among th e locales that get the recognition. Ocracoke was No. 1 last year. This year’s top beach is Caladesi Island State Park in Florida.
