Best Among the Beaches in the Country

BEACHES in the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend are among the best in Wales when it comes to water quality, according to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

Not one of the 13 shorelines tested by the MCS in the Vale and Bridgend failed to meet legal requirements on water quality.

Across the rest of Wales up to 15 beaches did not meet basic European standards for water quality.

But in the Vale and Bridgend – of the 13 beaches examined – six were recommended by the MCS in its Good Beach Guide, meaning they achieved its highest possible standard.

These were Rest, Sandy and Trecco Bays, in Porthcawl, and Southern down, Llantwit Major and Whitmore Bay in the Vale. The remaining seven beaches all achieved basic passes, including Newton Bay in Porthcawl and Ogmore, Barry’s Watch House Bay, Cold Knap, Jacksons Bay and Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan.
