Free Fishing Clinics Set for Youngsters

Jun. 1–Looking for something to do with the kids this summer?

Enroll them in one of the free youth fishing clinics offered through the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.

The first class is Saturday, but many more will be held throughout the summer at various locations in Oklahoma City. Fishing poles, bait and tackle are provided.

The summer youth classes are by reservation only, and children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to show up 15 minutes before the class and bring drinks and hats.

Adults attending classes with their children are not required to carry state fishing licenses or city permits.

Normally, all anglers between ages 16 and 62 who are not exempt must possess both a state fishing license and city fishing permit to fish on city waters.

The classes are from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

At Metro Tech Springlake, NE 36 and Springlake Drive, classes will be June 7, July 12 and Aug. 9.

At Dolese Youth Park Pond, 5105 NW 50, classes will be June 14 and June 26.

At Crystal Lake, SW 15 and MacArthur, June 21 and Aug. 23.

At Edwards Park Fishing Lake, 1515 N Bryant, July 19 and Aug. 16.

To register for the classes, call the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League at 316-3474.

In addition, the state Wildlife Department will hold family fishing clinics every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. through Aug. 12 at Lake Arcadia.
