Oil Leak Threat to Dolphins
A WILDLIFE group have voiced fears over Scotland’s bottlenose dolphins after an oil spill threatened their habitat.
The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society are calling for the Government to reject oil and gas licensing in the bottlenose dolphin Special Area of Conservation after more oil washed up on the beach at Buckie, Banffshire.
The WDCS said it is the second time this year oil – reportedly from the Beatrice field – has threatened the Moray Firth environment.
The WDCS’s Sarah Dolman said: “Given there are only two protected areas for bottlenose dolphins in the UK, and this population may already be in decline, we cannot take risks.”
