The Wercs Hosts 11th Annual International User’s Conference

The Wercs, Ltd., the global leader in MSDS authoring software, today hosts its eleventh annual international user’s conference in New York’s Tech Valley at The Saratoga Hotel and Conference Center in Saratoga Springs. Global Fortune 500 chemical and life science companies will share best practices for employee health and safety.

This year’s theme builds on last year’s conference, focusing again on the impact of the European Union law known as REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of CHemicals), which will require basic safety data on every chemical in EU commerce and will restrict any substance deemed to endanger health or the environment. To comply with the first milestone of REACH, manufacturers or importers of substances in amounts of one metric ton or more must pre-register their chemicals, including the substance’s name, volume and identity code such as the Chemical Abstracts Registry Number.

After Dec. 1, 2008, companies that have not pre-registered will not be allowed to sell chemicals in the EU. Last year, The Wercs launched REACH 123, a complementary software solution that enables Wercs customers to capture and analyze the critical chemical data needed to facilitate the pre-registration and subsequent registration process.

Erwin Annys, Ph.D., of Essenscia, an umbrella organization that represents the Belgium life sciences and chemicals sector, will keynote an update on REACH legislation. Geoffrey Brooks, Chief Software Architect of The Wercs, will provide an overview of REACH 123. Customers will then share real world applications of The Wercs software and The Wercs executives will provide updates on new software functionality of THE WERCS(R), the company’s flagship MSDS authoring software.
