Aftermath of Wildfire
June 11, 2008
LOOKING more like the surface of the red planet Mars, this is actually moorland in Northumberland.
The sky over the land at Grindon Farm, near Haydon Bridge, was turned pink in the aftermath of a wildfire that left 10,000sqm of land scorched.
Eight fire crews, helped by a police helicopter, fought the blaze at its height on Tuesday night. The blaze began just before 3pm as contractors were burning off branches from felled trees.
No-one was hurt and no properties had to be evacuated.
