Yorkshire Firm Aims to Aid Safety in Chemicals

A group of companies based in Sheffield has launched a new service to help companies around the world comply with new legislation to improve safety in the chemicals industry.

VEN, an EU-funded group of companies supported by Yorkshire Forward, has launched REACH-VEN.

The group said the service will enable businesses in and around the chemical sector to collaborate in sharing information and testing substances they produce and import.

Jim Thomas, a director at VEN, said: "REACH-VEN provides a mechanism whereby small and medium-sized companies in particular can share data in a secure and transparent way and work together to share the costs of creating the new data that is required to comply with the new legislation."

The new law has implications, for chemicals supply chains into other industries.

Companies in the region which manufacture or import more than a tonne of chemicals each year are encouraged to join the online initiative, where they can connect with companies internationally to comply with the regulations. The service can be accessed at www.reach-ven.eu
