Jun. 21–UNION — Rain and cloudy skies did not hamper the grand opening of the Campbell Lake Lodge at Walnut Springs last Saturday, according to Walnut Springs officials.

“Approximately 75 Walnut Springs estate owners, staff, local business owners, friends and future estate owners gathered by the mountain lake at Walnut Springs in Monroe County to celebrate the opening of the community lakeside lodge,” said Jonathan Halperin, chief executive officer of Mountain America LLC, the company developing the planned private community.

Halperin said guests were treated to live music by estate owner Jonathan Panks, who most recently performed at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg.

“There was also delicious food catered by Blackwell’s Restaurant in Lewisburg and trout fishing in Walnut Springs’ crystal clear mountain lake,” Halperin said.

He said younger guests enjoyed a moon bounce and paddle boat rides in the lake.

Campbell Lake Lodge, situated between two clear-bottom lakes, is named for Judge Andrew Nelson Campbell, one of the first and most famous judges in Monroe County, Halperin explained.

“The great room in the lodge is constructed from antique logs and beams that once comprised Judge Campbell’s log home,” he said. “The lodge, which is a community building for use by Walnut Springs estate owners and their guests, has a great room with a vaulted ceiling and gas fireplace, a fully stocked kitchenette, restrooms, closed-in outdoor showers, an outdoor fireplace and ample deck space for relaxing, fishing and enjoying the view.”

The 1,200-square-foot lodge was constructed by Hawkes Construction of Lindside and interior decorating services were provided by Erin Messing Panks, owner and operator of Chez Amenities of Lewisburg and Palm Beach, Fla.
