Council Push on Composting
Residents are being encouraged to start composting their garden rubbish.
Stroud District Council is asking them to reduce the amount of garden waste that is being send to landfill.
The council will collect garden rubbish in specially branded, pre- paid garden refuse sacks, but it goes straight to landfill where it is unable to decompose properly.
The alternative to this, is for people to compost at their own homes.
Garden rubbish can be also be disposed of at the district’s household waste recycling centres in Horsley and Hempstead in Gloucester. This waste is then composted.
Stroud District Council is offering cut price compost bins for pounds17 (including home delivery) for a 220-litre bin. Call 0845 0770757 for more information.
The special garden refuse sacks can be purchased for 60p at a number of post offices and parish council offices across the district.
