David A. Robbins Appointed to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada

The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), today announced the appointment of Mr. David A. Robbins to the Council.

"Mr. Robbins' professional experience as an environmental scientist, coupled with his wide-ranging board experience, will serve him well as a member of NSERC," said Minister Prentice. "Guided by the Science and Technology Strategy, the Government of Canada is committed to creating the right environment to further improve Canada's global leadership position in research excellence and to building a larger base of scientific expertise, and Mr. Robbins' appointment to NSERC will support this effort."

Since 1995, Mr. Robbins has worked with AMEC Earth & Environmental Ltd., a multidisciplinary international environmental and engineering firm. He is currently Vice-President of Atlantic Operations and previously served as Senior Scientist and Business Manager.

Mr. Robbins previously served as Principal, EPIC Environmental Services Inc., and worked with BFL Consultants Limited, providing environmental consulting services.

Mr. Robbins has extensive Board experience, including the Newfoundland Environmental Industry Association, Association of Newfoundland Land Surveyors, and Oceans Advance. He holds a Bachelor of Science. in biology and a Master of Environmental Science from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

NSERC is a federal agency whose vision is to help make Canada a country of discoverers and innovators for the benefit of all Canadians. The agency supports some 25 000 university students and postdoctoral fellows in their advanced studies. NSERC promotes discovery by funding more than 11 000 university professors every year and fosters innovation by encouraging more than 1400 Canadian companies to participate and invest in university research projects.
