WK Dickson Appoints New Director of Land Planning & Landscape Architecture
WK Dickson is pleased to announce the addition of John R. Thomas, ASLA, AICP as the firm’s new Director of Land Planning & Landscape Architecture. As a Vice President and Practice Area Leader with WK Dickson, John’s responsibilities include staff oversight and skills development, mentoring of young professionals, promotion and marketing for the firm, client development, major project planning, permitting and entitlements, and project quality assurance on all land planning and landscape architectural projects.
John is a seasoned professional with over 35 years of experience in major project design and construction. Using a hands-on approach, he has developed projects as large as 6,000 acres, worked in more than 50 cities and municipalities as well as several foreign countries. Projects have included residential design, recreational design, planned unit developments, mixed-use communities, over 7,000 units of multi-family housing, parks, waterfront developments, military projects, and regional college campus designs.
“John is an industry leader in the urban planning and design field and has a proven record of successful and efficient project management,” said David L. Peeler, President and CEO. “His knowledge of sustainable design and Smart Growth techniques will be a tremendous asset to the firm,” added Peeler.
John began his professional career in West Palm Beach, Florida, founded and served as president of his own multi-disciplinary firm and was most recently a Senior Associate for a land planning and landscape architecture firm in Bluffton, SC. He is a recognized expert on Low Impact Development (LID), LEED certifiable site design, and stormwater quality and mitigation systems utilizing “natural” storm drainage design and bio-filtration. John is often a featured speaker on these issues as well as growth and demographics for professional conferences and seminars throughout the southeastern U.S.
