Talley’s Firm Seeks Milk
A private dairy company part-owned by the Motueka-based Talley’s family will soon be wooing North Island farmers for their milk. Dairy Trust – a consortium that includes main shareholders Talley’s, Affco and Dairy Investment Fund Ltd – plans to build a milk- processing plant in Wanganui and will pay no less than 25c of the full Fonterra payout. Milk would be collected from as far north as New Plymouth, south to Foxton and 90km east of Wanganui and the company has an initial target of 100 suppliers. Trust national milk supply manager Steve McBride said suppliers would need to be confirmed before the company committed capital.
