Search on for Missing Anglers

Posted on: Saturday, 5 July 2008, 18:00 CDT

The search continued Saturday for two New York City men last seen when they went on a fishing trip almost a week ago.

The Coast Guard dispatched a boat to the South Oyster Bay area on the south shore of Long Island after a van was found parked near Wantagh Bridge No. 3, Newsday reported. When the men were first reported missing Wednesday, the search focused on Montauk because family members believed they had gone to that area on the east end of Long Island.

The men, both from Queens, were planning to fish from a canoe Sunday. Relatives asked that their identities be withheld.

A number of state and local agencies joined the search. A Nassau County Police Department helicopter and a Coast Guard search plane were surveying the area from the air.
