Iran: Phase 1 of Karun Petrochemical Complex to Be Operational

Text of report by Iranian state-run provincial TV from Khuzestan on 9 July

The first phase of the Karun Petrochemical Complex, situated in petrochemical complex of Imam [Khomeyni] Special Economic Zone, has reached the precommissioning stage.

The project manager of the country's petrochemical industry said that this project has had more than 99 per cent of progress. He added that this project has been carried out to result in a production capacity of 130,000 tonnes of toluene, methylene, (?diethylene) and chloridric acid.

Jalil Ebrahimpur added that this project has been carried out over an area of 34 acres and an investment of 3,000 rials [about 300m dollars] by the private sector.

He said that with the operation of this project there will be 440 employment opportunities.
