Timothy F. Brick, chairman of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, issues the following statement regarding the water plan introduced today by U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger:
"Sen. Feinstein and Gov. Schwarzenegger continue to demonstrate the necessary leadership for taking positive, cooperative steps that address our state-wide water problems. Our record dry weather conditions throughout the state since the spring have accentuated the urgent need for long-term water solutions in California.
"A bipartisan approach that addresses conservation and local resource management, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta's fragile ecosystem and water supply improvements is essential and is a prudent long-term investment that 36 million California residents deserve. We strongly encourage Sen. Feinstein, Gov. Schwarzenegger and the legislative leaders to pursue a comprehensive solution. Fortunately, we have the right leaders with the right resolve at the right time for some historic decisions on water."

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving 18 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.
