wHAT IS YOUR IDEA FOR A GREAT DAY TRIP?

ANSWER OF THE DAY:

Try Governo’s Island in New York. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the many free concerts and activities the Island has to offer. The ferry ride and admission are free and there is also “Free Bike Friday” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (first come first served). Every weekend in historic “Building 408,” eight painters exhibit their paintings made on site at Governor’s Island in the medium of water colors or oils. Check out their Web site for more information: govisland.com.

Drive on Route 80 to the very last exit before Pennsylvania. Drive north slowly, stopping often for a view, wading in the Delaware River, maybe some craft shopping at Peter’s Valley, or dinner at Walpack Inn and buy a loaf of bread to take home.

A great day trip to me is packing a picnic basket with lots of goodies and heading to Lake Wallenpaupack for a day on a boat just lying around rocking with the waves, swimming and fishing. To end it all, we watch the fireworks on the lake on a perfect cool night.

A great day trip is to go to the New York Aquarium. The kids get to see fish and sea mammals they otherwise would never see. They also have a cute little touch area. The Coney Island beach is steps away, which in itself is a piece of history.

I really enjoy going to Chester for the day. It’s an easy drive, less than an hour and plenty to do. You can visit Alstede Farms market place, which has activities going on throughout the year. Then you can enjoy walking around the many stores. There is always great food, whether at a restaurant or one of the many little drop- in places for you to sit and enjoy.
