Jul. 15–The threat of rip currents at beaches from the Eastern Shore to the Outer Banks continues today while the weather service predicts mostly cloudy skies today.

A light chance of rain will continue through until noon with patch fog predicted for some areas, including Southampton County and Franklin, according to the National Weather Service.

The risk of rip currents has been downgraded from high yesterday to moderate today as Bertha continues spinning swells toward the coast from the its location out at sea, the weather service says.

The high today is expected to be about 84 with the low tonight dipping to 69 with partly cloudy skies.

Air quality today in Hampton Roads is expected to be moderate with a code yellow alert issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

North Carolina environmental officials said unhealthy air conditions are expected in eastern Beaufort, western Hyde, southwestern Tyrrell and southeastern Washington counties. A code orange alert was issued for those areas.

Residents of coastal regions east of Greenville and north of New Bern also should keep an eye on weather conditions and poor air quality caused by burning wildfires.

Officials also were asking resident of those areas to curb outdoor burning in areas with poor air quality. Residents with heart or lung conditions were urged to limit outdoor activity or stay inside.
