Connellsville Mayor, PennDOT Settle Pedestrian Corridor Issue
Officials in Fayette County have come to an agreement with the state Department of Transportation for the addition of a see- through pedestrian safety corridor to the $9.2 million Memorial Bridge renovation project in Connellsville.
PennDOT will add a 6-foot-wide sidewalk with barriers between vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The corridor will extend from Murphy Avenue to Seventh Street, providing safe and convenient access to the city's North Side for Yough River Trail travelers.
"PennDOT will be providing safe passage, while at the same time using an approved railing that allows motorists to see straight through to the Youghiogheny River," Connellsville Mayor Judy Reed said. "That is important to the city."
