New Wal-Mart planning ongoing
Plans for a Wal-Mart near the intersection of Jamestown Drive and U.S. 17 are in the works, but no construction start date has been set, according to Horry County principal planner David Schwerd.
“They are still working on finalizing the traffic study and improvements as well as landscape and buffer issues,” Schwerd wrote in an e-mail. “They have submitted building plans for review; however, they are in the process of updating those plans to accommodate a more attractive exterior and slightly rearranged interior.”
The store is slated to be built on 22 acres, preliminary plans show. Residents in the area have expressed concern about traffic that the store would create.
There are seven Wal-Marts on the Grand Strand and in Brunswick County, N.C.

Goody’s to close in wake of bankruptcy
Goody’s in North Myrtle Beach will be one of nearly 70 stores across the country closing after the clothing chain filed for bankruptcy.
The North Myrtle Beach location will close in late July, leaving 22 employees out of work, a corporate spokeswoman said.
Goody’s Family Clothing Inc. filed for bankruptcy June 9, and is in the process of closing 69 stores across the country, including five in South Carolina.
Horry County still will have two Goody’s: on Seaboard Street in Myrtle Beach and in the Gateway II Shopping Center on Church Street in Conway.
