Angling: Salmon Are in at the Deep End
SALMON have taken advantage of summer flood conditions to move well upstream in both the River Usk and River Wye.
Grant Holmes caught his first salmon, a 15lb fish that rose to a fly, when he fished the Glanwye beat and two other anglers caught fish here.
Other stretches of the Wye where salmon were landed included the Rocks, Gromain and Golden Mile beats.
River Usk salmon have been going over the weir at Brecon and several fish have been caught at Talybont.
Cardiff Reservoirs Fly Fishing Club continues the competition calendar at Llandegfedd Reservoir on Sunday.
The Salmon and Trout Association runs a "Learn to Fly Fish" day for children on Saturday at Usk with licensed STA coach Mat Holloway.
The cost for the day is pounds 10, all tackle is provided and places can be booked on 07740 869620.
