A Norwegian tourist drowned in Florida while swimming at night with her two children.
Alicja Dyga, 51, and her children, aged 8 and 16, were on vacation in Clearwater Beach while her husband remained behind in Norway, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
The three went to the beach Wednesday night. Police said that Dyga was in the water at about 9:30 p.m. when she disappeared after a wave hit her.
The children looked for their mother and then called 911. Clearwater Fire & Rescue found her about a quarter mile up the beach and tried without success to revive her.
Police said that Dyga's husband had been notified of her and arrangements made to care for her children temporarily.
