The Scientist Wins Magazine of the Year
The Scientist, magazine of the life sciences, was awarded the prestigious Azbee Award for “Magazine of the Year” presented by The American Society of Business Publication Editors.
Recognized as the top honor for business-to-business publications, the “Magazine of the Year” award recognizes magazines for excellence in writing, reporting and editing; editorial organization; layout and design; value to readers; and interaction with readers. The judge evaluated three consecutive issues to ensure a consistency in quality and awarded The Scientist the best magazine in the “under 80,000 circulation” category. “Receiving this honor is about showing you have an excellent magazine that serves your readers well, and your peers are recognizing you for this,” says ASBPE.
The Scientist has been consistent, winning this year after being a finalist for the award last year. “Certain elements, such as a gutsy approach to a controversial topic, or smart and sassy layouts [that] stand out” make the publication a winner while, “Other times, the overall quality of the magazine stands out,” said one of ASBPE’s judges.
The Scientist also won the Special Supplement category and took home a Gold Azbee Award for its “Schizophrenia” supplement.
“Ours is a team effort and each and every one of the staff at The Scientist is thrilled to be recognized by our publishing peers — it’s an honor. The scientific community is a tough audience, and they push us to ever higher standards, so they take some of the credit here too. Science really is the frontier of human experience and our goal is to capture the excitement of research as well as its contribution to improving our lives,” said Richard Gallagher, editor and publisher of The Scientist.
The Scientist magazine is available through a print subscription and on select newsstands. The online magazine, including a 20 year archive, interactive extras and community, can be found at the-scientist.com.
