Scientists are to carry out a study of the ecological and economic impact of the Lyme Bay fishing ban.
Scallop dredging and bottom trawling were prohibited in around 10 per cent of the bay this month by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.Marine researchers will examine the effect this has on what is described as one of Britain's richest marine environments.
It will also look at the effect on local fishermen.
