Stream Access Problematic

August 2, 2008

We are all very fortunate to live in the Salt Lake Valley with majestic mountains, lakes and streams on our doorstep. But the recent ruling by the Utah Supreme Court allowing newfound access to our waterways isn’t in the best interest of landowners.

I live at the mouth of Millcreek Canyon, and the stream running out of this beautiful canyon passes through my yard. This yard is fenced and landscaped. I’ve created an environment, at my expense, for wildlife to co-exist in our urban setting. Now I am being told to open up my yard to strangers so they can tromp through the stream to fish. This creates not only a nuisance but a security issue. It’s already happened.
