Campuses, Courthouses Close for Edouard

Aug. 5–The threat of Tropical Storm Edouard prompted officials across Jefferson and Orange counties to cancel classes, meetings and activities until further notice.
Lamar University, Lamar State Colleges Port Arthur and Orange as well as Lamar Institute of Technology will close Tuesday, Aug. 5 as the storm is predicted ot bring high winds, heavy rainfall and possibly even flood waters when it makes landfall.
Local school districts are also cancelling student activities, including practices and meetings, until at least Wednesday.
Both Nederland ISD and PN-G ISD officials said should the weather clear Tuesday afternoon, students will be notified by their coaches to return to the schools for practices.
Bridge City ISD also canceled activities and practices.
Port Arthur ISD, however, did not cancel activities.
Classes will resume Wednesday as usual, unless specifically noted.
Both Jefferson and Orange County courthouses will be closed Tuesday because of the storm.
Essential personnel, called by the emergency management coordinators, will be expected to work.
A townhall meeting called by Port Arthur City Councilman Tom Henderson for Tuesday night in Sabine Pass has been canceled because of the storm as well. Henderson said he does not have a new date for the meeting yet.
All county officials are to report back to work on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at regular business hours.
