Woman Facing Felony Charges in Car Thefts
A 31-year-old woman was charged in 3rd District Court Friday with three second-degree felonies and a misdemeanor following her arrest in connection with the theft of two cars in two days in late July.
Court documents state the woman stole the first car on July 29 from a Salt Lake County Maverik convenience store. The owner's purse was inside the vehicle at the time and contained her credit cards and identification.
The following day, the woman allegedly used the stolen ID to secure a test-drive of a 2004 Audi from Sunburst Auto Sales in Salt Lake City, and she and a male companion drove off in the car, leaving the first stolen vehicle at the dealer.
Police arrested the woman a week later as she sat in the Audi near Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake City. She's being charged with theft of the two vehicles, identity fraud and possession of another's identification documents.
