Readers’ Forums a Disgrace

August 12, 2008

Although popular in many publications around the country, the Readers’ Forum sections of both the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune are a public disgrace and give the city and region a gigantic black eye. They serve no purpose other than to give the disenchanted and angry a public forum for their specific “hatred” du jour.

It is so sad to see almost any topic, no matter how inane or inoffensive, turn into a sounding board that almost invariably turns into an anti-LDS or anti-BYU diatribe. Although a limited few are well-thought-out and perhaps meaningful, the overwhelming majority are sophomoric jibes.

I am certain that I am not alone in my sentiments. Please do your reading public a service; report the news and discontinue these readers’ forums.
