Valley Life: Dog Days of Summer

August 14, 2008
Repost This

There’s nothing like the last days of summer.

Warm days, cool nights.

Casting a line into the San Gabriel River at the Santa Fe Dam with hopes of landing the big one.

Lenger Gudini and Juan Alejandre tried their hand at fishing in Irwindale and landed a small blue gill. Just the right size to throw back!

Lazy afternoons swinging from a hammock at Legg Lake can be fun, too. On Tuesday, Martin Delgado of Rosemead took a snooze in South El Monte as the day lazed on.

Expect the weather to remain similar for much of the rest of the week. Forecasters said the San Gabriel Valley will remain slightly humid, and temperatures are expected to hover in the high 80s at least until the weekend.

As for the fishing, anglers claim plain old worms, small hooks and bobbers work just fine.

Other features of the park include: a children’s water play area, picnic areas, trails for biking and hiking, and campsites. Electric boats, rowboats and paddle boats are available to rent. A tackle and bait shop also in the park.
