IN BRIEF: Crews Called Out to Fuel Spill

August 14, 2008

FIRE crews were called to a fuel spill stretching almost a mile in Stockton.

The spill – possibly gearbox or hydraulic oil – ran along Sheraton Street and Grangefield Road.

Firefighters were called at about 7.15pm last night and used about 350 litres of dispersant but failed to fully clear the spill and a council gritter was called to spread eight tonnes of sand on the road. It is thought the spill may have come from a large lorry or other vehicle which may later have ground to a halt as a result of losing the oil. The road was closed for three hours.
