Pool Plodge

August 18, 2008

YOUNG sea enthusiasts waded into an adventurous rockpooling event.

Children joined staff from Northumberland Wildlife Trust to play water detectives in rock-pools at Cresswell Foreshore, as part of National Marine Week celebrations.

With the help of People and Wildlife Officer Heather O’Neill, children caught and identified Edible Crabs, Shore Crabs and Velvet Swimmer Crabs, as well as a variety of fish including Pipe Fish and Butterfish.

People and Wildlife Officer Alex Lister said: “I hope our rock- pooling afternoon will help children cherish the marine life on their doorstep and understand more about the threats facing watery wildlife.”
