Oreti Conservation Order Recognises River
August 22, 2008
A WATER Conservation Order on the Oreti River comes into effect on September 1.
The order recognises the nationally outstanding brown trout fishery, black-billed gull populations and values for tikanga Maori.
Southland Fish and Game Council manager Maurice Rodway said the order did not impinge on existing uses of the river while protecting the river from damming and a reduction in water quality.
