54 Women Recruited for Forest Security
Fifty-four women have been appointed and trained as part of a state forest department drive that has recruited 300 new forest guards and 180 foresters for protection of forest areas. Besides, about 300 people have volunteered their services as friends of forests. In a meeting held for protection of Asiatic lions in Gir sanctuary, Chief Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the working of the Gujarat State Lion Conservation Society which was started with an allocation of Rs 40 crore to protect lions with people participation. Modi warned the forest department that the walls around the 10,000 wells in the Gir sanctuary should be secured as a campaign involving the people and should be completed this year itself.
