Authorities said Wednesday 18 bodies were found amid the rubble of an explosion at a chemical plant in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang region.
Rescuers continued to search for others believed missing as investigators focused on the possible cause of Tuesday's blast at the Guangxi Guangwei Chemical Co., Xinhua, China's official news service reported.
The initial blast set off other explosions in cans of flammable material, including formaldehyde and acetylene, stored in a workshop, Xinhua reported.
At least 60 people were hospitalized with burns and fractures while about 11,500 people living near the plant were evacuated from their homes as the explosions continued for nearly two hours Tuesday.
