Hazardous Waste to Be Collected
MEXICO – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will hold a free household waste collection event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Region 9 parking lot on 377 River Road. This program is available to River Valley residents seeking an environmentally friendly way to dispose of their hazardous waste.
Some examples of household hazardous waste include cleaners, solvents, chemical lawn fertilizers, weed and insect killers, swimming pool chemicals, driveway sealers, rat poison, moth balls and rechargeable batteries. Look for the words poison, danger, corrosive, toxic, volatile, flammable, caution or warning on the label.
Latex paint will not be accepted. Latex paint is water based and is not hazardous. Look for the words latex, water based, or clean up with water on the label.
Wastes being brought to the collection event should be in the original, securely closed containers if at all possible. If any container is leaking, pack the whole thing into a bucket. Never mix chemicals, and do not smoke or eat while handling or transporting hazardous materials.
This event is made possible by a grant secured by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition. For more information, contact Patty Duguay at 364-7408.
