Farmland Still Continues to Meet Strong Demand ; Humberts Has Sold Two Farms in Somerset – Southwick Farm at Mark, and Barton Farm, Located Close to Cannington.
Humberts has sold two farms in Somerset – Southwick Farm at Mark, and Barton Farm, located close to Cannington.
Southwick Farm is a holding of about 156 acres. The ring-fenced farm, which is all laid to pasture, is situated in open countryside two miles from the village of Mark and 10 miles from Glastonbury. Serious interest was shown from both the local and national market. Offered for sale at a guide price of pounds1.75 million, as a whole or in two lots, the farm was quickly sold in two lots for a figure close to the guide price.
Barton Farm at Perry Green, near Cannington, was sold by Humberts and joint agents Tamlyns. This farm had a detached modern farmhouse, a two-bedroom bungalow and an extensive range of flexible general- purpose farm buildings, located in open countryside within easy access to both Bridgwater and the M5 motorway. Again, interest was strong. The guide price was pounds1.15 million.
David Hebditch, Humberts’ head of farm agency in the South West, commented: “Demand for good quality farms and in particular farmland, has continued to rise throughout the year. With land values having increased by 20 per cent in the last 12 months and a general shortage of farms on the market, demand is outstripping supply significantly.
“We have seen demand from commercial farmers, lifestyle buyers and the investment market all competing for the limited number of farms available.”
