Leisure Centres Look to Hook the Young
TWO leisure centres will be fishing for fun – after being given a grant to introduce youngsters to angling.
Maindy and Fairwater Leisure Centres were donated the money to train their staff as fishing coaches and purchase equipment and licences to fish on nearby rivers.
The lessons are being offered to children through the Government’s Free Swimming Initiative, which aims to increase youngsters’ awareness of water safety.
So far the sessions have taken place at Sevenoaks and Cefn Mably Lakes, and in the future they will also visit the Rivers Taff and Ely.
Heritage Minister Alan Ffred Jones AM said: “Keeping children fit, active and, most importantly, entertained, during the summer is essential.”
