Attorney General Patrick Lynch Honored By The Century Council for Commitment to Fighting Drunk Driving and Underage Drinking

The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers, honored Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch for his outstanding commitment to reducing drunk driving and underage drinking on August 26th.
Attorney General Lynch and The Century Council have partnered since 2004 to bring alcohol education to middle schools and high schools throughout Rhode Island to combat the dangers of drunk driving and underage drinking. Attorney General Lynch's education efforts are part of his ongoing commitment to visit at least one school a week while in office, to speak to kids about making the right choices and to urge against harmful behaviors such as bullying, truancy, gang involvement, and substance abuse.
In 2006 in Rhode Island, 32 youths under age 18 were arrested for driving under the influence, 113 youths were arrested for liquor law violations, and 7 youths were arrested for drunkenness. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, in 2006 there were 42 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in Rhode Island, 6 of these deaths were among youth under 21.
