Hanna Knocked Out Fort Bragg Water Supply

The U.S. Army has ordered a clampdown on water consumption at Fort Bragg in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hanna’s march through North Carolina.

Base officials say the storm caused an influx of silt into the Lower Little River that has overwhelmed the capability of the base filtration plant and forced residents to rely on a limited supply of clean water from nearby Fayetteville.

The Fayette (N.C.) Observer said Wednesday the restrictions include no vehicle washing and the use of disposable plates and utensils at establishments where food is served.

The river is expected to clear itself up in a few days; however, base officials warned using too much of the supply from Fayetteville could cause the entire water system to lose pressure and shut down.
