Plight of Bumble Bees to Be Halted

A SANCTUARY for the endangered great yellow bumblebee is to be set up in Scotland.

It will be built in the Outer Hebrides where farming methods, which are partly responsible for the bees' decline, are less intensive.

The project is one of three conservation schemes for the islands which have won pounds 150,000 Government cash support.

Grasslands where the bees, and several species of birds, can thrive will be developed. Traditional breeds of cattle will also be introduced.
