Volunteers Sought for Coastsweep Cleanup

September 16, 2008

HINGHAM – If summer is one big beach party, the time for cleaning up eventually comes.

In Hingham, that time is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers will gather at the Bathing Beach, on Otis Street (Route 3A), for Coastsweep, the state’s annual coastal cleanup.

In last year’s Coastsweep, volunteers collected almost 9 tons of trash as they cleaned beaches, river banks, marshes and the sea floor. In Hingham, 39 volunteers removed 200 pounds of debris from the harbor area.

To volunteer, contact Adrienne Fowkes Ramsey at adrienne.ramsey@gmail.com.

Coastsweep is sponsored by the state’s Office of Coastal Zone Management. To learn more, go to www.coastsweep.umb.edu or call 617- 287-5570.
