New Heights for Yaser
By Jasbir Authi
A WARD End pharmacist will be scaling new heights in his quest to raise money for a city charity.
Yaser Baig, aged 26, is busy training for a gruelling ten-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp from November 22.
Yaser thought the trek would be the best way to combine his love of exercise with his desire to do his bit for Saltley-based Islamic Relief.
Mount Everest Base Camp is situated 5,500m above sea level and Yaser and his party of 15 expect to be trekking eight hours a day for ten days.
He has climbed Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon, but knows the base trek will be an altogether different challenge.
Yaser has covered the airfare and living costs himself but is appealing to people to donate so he can reach the pounds 10,000 total which will be used to fund water projects in Africa.
Anyone who wishes to donate can go to www.justgiving.com/ yaserbaig
A city council spokesman said: "The tree has been inspected and it doesn't overhang properties, so there is, therefore, no work required because the tree meets city standards.
It is not unsafe in any way."
