Jam Factory Evacuated
MORE than 40 workers at a jam factory needed treatment yesterday after a chemical spill.
Twelve people were taken to hospital and 39 were treated by paramedics after the acid spill at Wilkin & Sons in Tiptree, Essex.
Ambulance crews said most victims suffered breathing problems. Firefighters said more than 160 people were evacuated just before 3pm.
A fire brigade spokesman said chlorine gas was created after sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid were mixed.
